Fall is in full swing in Central New York, and with that comes colder temperatures and beautiful fall foliage. But it also means you can break out your favorite fall fashion trends.

In Syracuse, the fall season can be a tricky one when it comes to deciding what to wear. In the beginning of October, mornings can dip into the 30s, and then by the afternoon, it’s 60 degrees and sunny. Once November rolls around, the temperatures change for good, as chilly days followed by cold nights force everyone to dress appropriately.

Sarah Plutzer, a junior, is now spending her third fall in Syracuse, fully embracing the season and its fashion trends.

Sarah Plutzer loves showing off her sweater collection during the fall weather.

“Fall fashion is something that definitely speaks to me. I am a Special Education major. When fall comes around, I love getting to wear new sweaters to school and show off the fall neutral colors or Halloween spirit to my students,” Plutzer said. “Each day I can never go wrong in jeans and a sweater, an outfit both comfortable and very fashionable for the fall.”

Jake Stoll, a senior from Florida, is accustomed to the warm sun year-round, but after his first fall in Syracuse he learned the hard way about colder weather. Since then, he says he’s fully embraced the season and has a particular outfit he likes best.

“When I first got to Syracuse, the cold weather came as a bit of a shock and I didn’t really know how to best dress for it,” Stoll said. “Now, in my fourth year here, my go to for the fall is always a classic sweatshirt and sweatpants fit because you really can’t go wrong with it, even on a warmer fall day.”

Stoll’s favorite fall outfit resonate with many, including senior Benny Goldenberg.

Benny Goldenberg believes sweatpants and jeans are a perfect staple for fall.

Goldenberg enjoys the fall because it allows him to wear more comfortable clothes, especially sweatpants and sweatshirts. Jeans are also a great fall option when he isn’t feeling sweatpants, Goldenberg said.

“I love fall just because it allows you to wear just about any kind of pants you want which allows comfort or style which is why fall is my favorite season for clothing,” Goldenberg said. “The weather in Syracuse can be hard to manage but during this time you can’t go wrong with sweatpants and a sweatshirt.”

For senior Alexa Verne, in the beginning of fall, she loves wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants, but says you can’t go wrong with a long-sleeve shirt either. Once it gets into November, Verne’s go-to is a sweater and jeans.

Once fall rolls around, not only do the clothes you wear matter, but the accessories can be just as important. Matty Weisholtz, a junior, is a big fan of different accessories for the fall.

“I love mixing my fall clothing textures like denim and knit as well as leather, and adding in accessories like scarves and hats to pull everything together for a good look for social media,” Weisholtz said. “I feel like this is also the season where people really start expressing their looks through color and what they wear to keep warm, so it’s fun to see everyone’s personal take on staying warm while looking good.”

Weisholtz is also a micro-influencer on TikTok and recently collaborated with the brand Princess Polly for a fall campaign.

“I chose to work with them on a brown knit set they were featuring for their back to school campaign,” Weisholtz said. “It was very interesting because it perfectly fit that fall vibe of being comfy and easy to style in so many ways. I love that kind of fall outfit because it looks put together but still feels effortless.”
