Feathers and Sequins Galore: Looks from the 2026 Grammys

From Lady Gaga’s three outfit changes, to “ICE Out” pin accessories, the Grammys were full of striking fashion moments.

The 86th annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday night and were full of fabulous fashion moments. Compared to other red carpets during awards season, the Grammys are known for a more over the top and less restrained dress code for its attendees, and music’s top stars did not disappoint with many dramatic and risk-taking looks.

One of the best dressed stars of the night was easily Lady Gaga, who won Best Pop Vocal Album for “Mayhem.” Gaga walked the carpet in a custom, black swan-esque look covered in large, stiff black feathers with a sculptural hip and high collar, designed by up and coming experimental fashion label Matières Fécales.

For her performance of hit “Abracadraba,” she dipped into the archives and pulled out a look from late designer Alexander McQueen’s fall 2009 collection, complete with an elaborate woven headpiece. Gaga posed with her two Grammys of the night in a third outfit change – this time an archival Givenchy Spring 1999 Haute Couture gown, also designed by Alexander McQueen. Fans rumored the third change happened because Gaga’s second look appeared to be ripping.

Many of the male attendees subverted traditional menswear trends, opting to step away from the typical boring black suit. Bad Bunny, who took home Album of the Year for Debí Tirar Más Fotos, debuted the first ever menswear look from Schiaparelli designer Daniel Roseberry. He wore a sleek black tuxedo with a laced-up, corset-inspired back.

Shaboozey, wearing Ralph Lauren, combined the top-half of a tuxedo with a pair of worn-out jeans. TikTok hit signer Sombr, who was nominated for Best New Artist and performed, wore a shimmery custom Valentino suit with a sheer lace top designed by Alessandro Michele.

The most controversial look of the night? Pop singer Chappell Roan, who was nominated for two awards, showed up in a totally sheer, topless burgundy dress by Mugler – a remake of a look from 1998 that was just as shocking then. Roan later captioned an Instagram post that she didn’t think her look was that outrageous and “I recommend just exercising your free will it’s really fun and silly.”

One of the biggest trends seen on the carpet was all kinds of feathers. South African pop star Tyla wore a nude, embellished Dsquared2 gown from 2013 with a long feathered train. Kesha wore a completely feathered white off the shoulder look. Olivia Dean, known for hits like “Man I Need” and “So Easy (To Fall in Love)” accepted the coveted award for Best New Artist in a black and white custom Chanel gown with a sequined bodice and feathery waist.

Several A-list attendees, such as Justin and Hailey Bieber who matched in all black, paired their fashion statements with a political one, choosing to stick “ICE Out” pins onto their clothing as a small, subtle act of activism. Billie Eilish adorned her deconstructed Hodakova skirt-suit with a pin. Carole King and Brandi Carlisle were also spotted wearing one.

Many artists channeled their current musical ‘eras’ through their looks as well. Swedish singer Zara Laarson evoked the bright, summery vibe of her album “Midnight Sun” wearing an embellished, glittery yellow and gold two piece set. Kelsea Ballerini said her metallic, paisley-patterned gown by Etro was a nod to her nominated album “Patterns.” FKA Twigs accessoried her look with a book, which she said contained the “lore of Eusexua,” her recent album that won Best Dance/Electronic Album.

The comfiest look of the night went to Best New Artist nominee Lola Young, who accepted Best Pop Solo Performance for “Messy” wearing a Vivienne Westwood sweatsuit covered in screen-printed stuffed animals and ducks.

Some of the last unique looks that stood out on the carpet were from a range of female artists. Rapper Doechii, wore a custom Roberto Cavalli look with a purple ruffled, embellished skirt, complete with a 13-foot train. Sabrina Carpenter stunned in a very old Hollywood embroidered Valentino gown and the six members of girl group Katseye coordinated in white lace and crystal mesh looks by Ludovic de Saint Sernin. In white was Best New Artist nominee and TikTok star Addison Rae, who wore an asymmetrical piece from Alaïa.
