Married for more than three decades, the Bruces share a love that continues to grow as their lives begin to fade.
Kay and Malcolm Bruce’s life together is easily characterized as happy, joyful and committed.
For me and my siblings, my grandparents’ three-decade marriage has shown us what love looks like.
As theyâve gotten older and their physical and mental needs have changed, their love and support for one another have remained the constants.
Kayâs eyesight has declined, and Malâs hearing loss has increased. In turn, theyâve started calling each other âthe eyesâ and âthe earsâ because together they have enough working senses for both of them.
Even as the realities of aging start settling in, the pair have never lost their sense of adventure and fun. Theyâve been to every continent and all 50 U.S. states. If they ever find themselves at a theme park theyâll still hop on a few roller coasters â even if waiting in the lines hurts their feet.
At the end of the day, their love continues to grow for one another. You see their love in their daily interactions. The subtle arm rubs when one passes behind the other. The exchange of smiles at the dinner table. The way they look at each other that words cannot describe.
Iâm not sure how many years they will have left, but I know that they will spend it happily together.
