Syracuse women’s lacrosse surrendered three goals in the fourth quarter to lose 9-8 against the Yale Bulldogs in Sunday’s second round matchup of the NCAA Tournament at New Haven Conntecticut.

After falling behind 3-0, the Orange scored five-straight goals to take a two-goal lead.

Ashlee Volpe scored four goals in the first half, matching her season-high, reaching the same mark again Yale earlier in the season.

Entering the second half with a 5-4 lead, Syracuse got goals from freshmen Caroline Trinkaus and Bri Peters to extend its lead to three.

The Bulldogs fought their way back. Fallon Vaughn scored two goals in the final minutes of the third to bring Yale back within one. Then Jenna Collignon tied the game with a goal to start the fourth quarter.

Vaughn and Collignon each scored three goals on the afternoon.

Trinkaus scored her 32nd goal of the season on a free position shot to give the Orange the lead with just over 10 minutes left to go.

Collignon put the Orange away with back-to-back goals to put Yale up 9-8 with under six minutes left in the game.

On defense, goalie Danny Guyette made 11 saves for the Orange.

The Orange finish their season at 10-9, their worst record since 2018.
