Winter holiday lookbook: A guide to dressing for festive fun

As we get closer to winter break, the anxiety of finals fades and excitement about winter activities grows. From family parties to ice skating with friends, there is so much fun that comes with this time of year. It is important, when celebrating holiday fun, to have the right outfit — one that is stylish but still allows you to move and be comfortable.

Use pops of color

When people think of winter outfits, they probably picture blue, gold, red and green. Use these fun colors to make the outfits you already own feel fresh. Try adding colorful tights under dresses and skirts to not only make the outfit warmer but also more exciting. Winter can feel gray and dreary, so wearing pops of colors can brighten everyone’s day.

Winter is the perfect time to try different textures, from silk maxi skirts to fur-cuffed sweaters and coats. One way to easily add texture to your clothing is by adding scarves to your outfit, which allow you to play around with different styles and colors. 

Coats are also great because they can elevate a simple outfit and don’t cause much overthinking when it comes to outfit planning. Chunky knit sweaters and faux fur coats are big this winter season and add a sense of style to a simple outfit. 

Layer up

This tip may be self-explanatory, but sometimes when you think of the perfect outfit, you may forget that function is just as important, especially during the winter months. Boots and coats are an investment, but choosing fashionable ones will make you more likely to actually wear them.
