No. 8 SU women’s lacrosse defeats No. 23 Pitt at home

The Orange slashed the Panthers in their highest goal total contest of the season.

No. 8 Syracuse women’s lacrosse hosted top 25 contender Pitt in the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday morning in its highest goal total of the season.

The Orange ran away with a dominant 16-7 win, extending its streak to nine. Other wins on the night include senior defender Coco Vandiver becoming the program’s leader in caused turnovers.

SU saw multiple standout performances, including redshirt senior midfielder Mackenzie Rich reaching her career-high in points with seven, and sophomore midfielder Molly Guzik throwing in six points of her own as well. Twelve players scored at least one point in the weekend’s matchup.

Syracuse won every quarter besides the fourth by a margin of three or more goals. The Orange kept the gap wide enough that the Panthers never had a chance to come back.

Syracuse hits the road on Tuesday to face Cornell, just two days following Saturday’s win, not returning home again until April 11 against No. 14 Notre Dame.
