Whiskey Myers powers through rain-drenched show
The East Texas band and opener Southall draw a devoted crowd to LaFayette despite a soggy Sunday night at the orchard.
Whiskey Myers brought its guitar-heavy Southern rock sound to a rain-soaked crowd Sunday night at Beak & Skiff Apple Orchards in LaFayette, with Southall opening the sold-out show.
Rain fell across the orchard before and during both performances, turning the outdoor venue into a muddy, poncho-filled scene.
Southall, a rock-leaning country band from Stillwater, Okla., opened with a high-energy set that drew an enthusiastic response from fans despite the wet conditions.
After a brief break in the rain, Whiskey Myers took the stage as the skies opened again. Red and blue lights cut through the downpour as the East Texas band worked through a forceful set rooted in rock, country and blues.
The sold-out crowd gradually thinned as the rain continued, but many fans stayed on the hillside beneath umbrellas, hoods and cowboy hats. Their presence gave the night much of its energy, turning the show into something of a shared experience between band and audience.
For Beak & Skiff — a venue better known for warm summer nights and open-air concerts — Sunday’s show offered something different: a loud, spirited rock show made more memorable by the weather.
